WSTA SPORTS BROADCASTER BOB WILMER, DIES AT 84

We are truly saddened to announce the passing of our friend and fellow WSTA Family member, Bob Wilmer. Bob passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2012, at Schneider Regional Medical Center where he was being treated for a heart condition. He was 84 years young.

Bob Wilmer was from Brooklyn, New York. He moved to St. Thomas in 1971, joining the St. Thomas radio community where he started with FM station WCRN and became the news director. WVWI radio was Bob's next home where he was a broadcaster for 14 years. Bob joined WSTA 1340 AM radio in 1987 and became the Program Director in 1995. Bob hosted WSTA’s Sports Talk radio show up to the time of his death.

Bob loved to play tennis, showcasing his strong forehand. He was an ardent lover of music, classical was his favorite. He also loved photography, reading and writing. Bob’s favorite thing to do was announce baseball games. As an announcer, he was able to merge his two greatest loves; baseball and broadcasting.

Bob Wilmer will truly be missed; but will live on in our hearts and memory forever.

Rest in peace good friend;

Addie Ottley, Peter Ottley, Anita Davis, Justin Ayela

and the entire WSTA Radio Family
